Frequently asked questions
How much space will I save?
Often a noticeable share of the file size at a similar look, but it varies by photo. Compare the sizes in the result list before you decide.
Does every browser open WebP files?
All current browsers and phones do. Some older programs and many upload forms do not, so check what your destination accepts.
My browser says it cannot save WebP. Why?
A few browsers can display WebP but cannot create it. The tool tells you if yours cannot. Chrome, Edge and Firefox can.
Is location data kept from my photo?
No. The new WebP is made from the picture only, so hidden details such as where the photo was taken are not copied over.
Should I convert photos I plan to print?
Keep JPG for printing and sharing with people. WebP is mainly useful for websites and apps.
