How to Merge PDF Files on Your Phone
· 4 min read
Combine two or more PDF files into one on your phone, in the order you want. Simple steps, no app needed, and your files stay on your device.
Free tool for this guide Merge PDF → Join several PDFs into one file. You have a form in one PDF, an ID copy in another, and a bank statement in a third. The office wants a single file. Merging PDFs sounds like a job for a computer, but you can do it right on your phone in a minute or two.
When merging helps
- Sending an application with several attachments as one file
- Joining scanned pages that were saved separately
- Combining chapters, invoices or tickets into one document
- Putting a cover page in front of a report
Before you start
Find your PDF files. If they came as email attachments or chat downloads, they are usually in your Downloads folder. Give them clear names so you can recognise them later, such as “1-form.pdf” and “2-id-copy.pdf”. Numbering the names also helps you keep the order straight.
Step 1: Open Merge PDF
Go to the Merge PDF tool. The page works on Android and iPhone browsers. Tap the large box that says “Choose PDF files”. Your phone opens its file picker. Pick the PDFs. You can select several at once, or add more afterwards with the “Add more files” button.
Step 2: Check the list
Each file appears in a list with its name, size and number of pages. This is a quick way to spot a mistake. If a file you expected to have ten pages shows only one, you probably picked the wrong version.
If a file is password-protected or damaged, the tool tells you which one and why. Protected files cannot be opened in a browser. Remove the password in the app that made the file, then add it again.
Step 3: Set the order
The merged PDF follows the list from top to bottom.
- Tap the up and down arrows to move a file.
- On a computer, drag a file to a new position.
- Tap the bin to remove one.
Take a moment here. The order matters, especially for forms where the main document should come first.
Step 4: Merge and download
Tap Merge PDFs. The tool joins the files and shows you a Download button. On Android the merged file goes to Downloads. On iPhone, look in the Files app. The file is named “merged.pdf”, so rename it to something meaningful before you send it.
Will merging change the quality?
No. The pages are copied as they are. Text stays text, images keep their quality, and the layout does not change. The merged file is usually about the same size as all the originals added together.
The merged file is too big. What now?
Email services and upload forms often have size limits. If the result is too large:
- Open Compress PDF.
- Choose the merged file.
- Pick Medium, or set a target size.

I need to change the page order inside the merged file
Sometimes you merge and then realise that one page belongs somewhere else. You do not need to start over. Use Organize PDF to see every page as a small preview, then move pages with the arrow buttons or delete the ones you do not need.
I only need some pages from a file
If you only want part of a document, cut it down first with Split PDF. Type the pages you want, such as “1-3, 5”, and get a smaller PDF to merge.
Merge photos too
You can also merge photos into a PDF. First turn the photos into a PDF with JPG to PDF, then merge that PDF with your other documents.
Is it private?
Yes. All the work happens in your browser. Your files are not sent to a server. That matters when your documents contain personal details such as ID numbers, bank information or medical records.
Common problems
“The tool says my file is protected.” The PDF has a password or restrictions. Remove them in the original app, save a new copy, and try again.
“The file picker does not show my PDF.” Make sure you are choosing from the right folder. On some phones you need to tap “Files” or “Browse” instead of “Photos”.
“The page order is wrong.” Go back with “Change settings”, fix the order, and merge again. Nothing is lost.
“It is slow.” Very large files need a lot of memory. Close other apps and tabs, and try merging fewer files at a time.
Quick checklist
- Files named clearly
- Order checked in the list
- Merged file opened and scrolled through
- File renamed before sending
- Originals kept as a backup
Merging is one of the simplest PDF jobs, and it works well on a phone once you know where to tap.
